Company

CIRES was founded in 1960 with five Portuguese and two Japanese companies as shareholders, which constituted the first industrial Portuguese-Japanese joint-venture  in post-war Europe.

In Portugal, in the initial period of development of the plastics manufacturing industry, CIRES immediately assumed itself as the main driver of the progressive growth of PVC consumption, contributing to the consolidation and development of the company's activity and the sector.

In 2009, with the full integration of the company into one of its original shareholders, Shin-Etsu Chemical Co. aimed at expanding CIRES' development potential and reinforcing Shin-Etsu's tripolar system: Japan, the United States of America and Europe.

Shin-Etsu is today the world leader in the sector with a manufacturing capacity of around 10% of the world's global consumption.

CIRES consolidated a leading position in the Iberian market, presenting a diversified range of PVC polymers manufactured by the suspension process, used in multiple industrial sectors predominantly with relevance in the civil construction segment. At the same time, CIRES also offers a range of specialties with differentiating properties, which include a portfolio of PVC products from the emulsion process to plastisols, in particular for applications in coatings, namely in the automotive sector.

The offer of thermoplastic raw material specialties is completed by its associates in the area of PVC compounds and other thermoplastics, namely PREVINIL based in Alverca-Portugal and CYGSA, based in Mendávia-Spain.

These two companies consolidate and are at the core of CIRES' development strategy, contributing to the development of PVC application markets and ensuring their presence in virtually all thermoplastic application segments.

With specialized technical staff, CIRES pays particular attention to the motivation and satisfaction of its workers, providing adequate working conditions and the necessary training for the full development of their potential.
